i used to not like the book of psalms. i thought it was mushy and repetitive and, to be honest, boring. nothing substantial. i've had a change of heart since this round of reading through it.
david really knows how to get at the heart of himself and of god (something i have trouble with). today's readings have particularly encouraged my soul:
vindicate me, o LORD, for i have led a blameless life; i have trusted the LORD without wavering. test me o LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind; for your love is ever before me, and i walk continually in your truth... my feet stand on level ground; in the great assembly i will praise the LORD. <psalm 26>and
one thing i ask of the LORD, this is what i seek: that i may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. <psalm 27>and finally, my favorite one today, for many personal reasons from events that have happened recently
you turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. o LORD my god, i will give you thanks forever. <psalm 30>
